Location:
Faith Alliance Gymnasium
833 Pleasant Street
Attleboro, MA
Schedule:
Wednesdays 6:00 to 8:00 pm
We are a fun and patient group of martial artists, welcoming all students. We share the art of Aikido Kokikai®, a modern Japanese martial art that emphasizes blending with the opponent’s attack to respond with minimal effort for maximum effect. Aikido Kokikai founder, Shuji Maruyama Sensei, promotes four basic principles as the foundation for our practice: keep one point, relax progressively, maintain good posture, and develop positive mind. Maintaining these principles allows us to sense the flow of the attack, reduce its power, and to redirect it.
Classes for adults are continuous so join us anytime. No prior experience expected! Our dojo is committed to supporting our local communities and offers class time for Progreso Latino youths. Youth may practice in the adult class with the instructor's permission.
Brief history: Otto first launched the Aikido Kokikai Rhode Island dojo at a YMCA before moving to our own space on Broad Street in 2017. During 2015-2020 we also hosted classes at Brown University and still welcome Brown students who wish to practice. In 2022 we moved to a larger gym space over the border in Attleboro, Massachusetts.
